Retailer trends on Twitter for showing off size diversity

Here’s a step in the right direction for body positivity.

An online retailer is trending on Twitter Wednesday for showing models of different sizes in its latest campaign.

British e-tailer Pretty Little Thing, in their recently released line with model Hailey Baldwin, showed size variety in photos of the brand’s sparkly dresses and party outfits that social media users were quick to praise.

“This is what every clothing website needs,” one user wrote.

“Why should this be an amazing thing and not the norm? Shouldn’t discriminate against any size be it bigger or smaller,” wrote another.

However, Pretty Little Thing’s photos may be taken out of context. Not every item is worn by two models of different sizes and only one of the models in the campaign is plus-size. On a positive note, most of the women featured in the campaign are women of color, who are largely underrepresented in the fashion world.

Other more mainstream retailers, such as J.Crew, Madewell and Everlane, are more earnest in their approach to help shoppers of all sizes shop. These sites show pants and other clothing items on models of various sizes. Shoppers can click through and choose models of different heights to see clothing on someone who best resembles their own size. Yet the majority of the female models for these sites are still overwhelmingly white and thin.

But these retailers are nonetheless feeding a market hungry for more plus-sized clothing options. As The Post previously reported, searches for plus-sized bikinis went up 43 percent this year alone.
