Bill Belichick was in midseason form in his halftime interview
It may be the first game of the preseason, but Bill Belichick is already in midseason form.
In an interview before the start of the second half of Thursday’s preseason game with the Washington Redskins, Belichick provided some classic one-liners about a lackluster opening 30 minutes to WBZ sports director Steve Burton.
When asked what he hoped to get out of the first half, Belichick turned to a go-to line.
“We need to do pretty much everything better,” he said. “Just not good enough in any area.”

The Patriots struggled for most of the half, but they did put three points on the board late in the second quarter. Quarterback Brian Hoyer hit Devin Lucien for a 25-yard reception, then Stephen Gostkowski buried a 52-yard field goal to trim the deficit to 17-3 at the break.
Belichick didn’t mind that particular stretch of football, but he was still uninspired by what came before it.
“Was it good to see good situational football, scoring at the end of the half, anyway?” Burton asked.
“Yeah, about 38 seconds of good football,” Belichick said.
