FOXBOROUGH — Patriots running back Rex Burkhead didn’t participate in contact drills at practice Wednesday because of a concussion. He did do some individual work.

It’s unknown when Burkhead suffered the concussion, but the tailback absorbed a wicked helmet-to-helmet hit from Texans safety Kareem Jackson late in the first half of Sunday’s 27-20 win. Burkhead fumbled after the hit, that should have drawn a flag for hitting a defenseless player (Burkhead already was corralled by another defender), but the ball was recovered by Chris Hogan.

Burkhead finished the game with 64 rushing yards on 18 carries.

James White and the newly signed Kenjon Barner are the lone healthy backs on the 53-man roster. Rookie Ralph Webb and Kenneth Farrow, who was signed Wednesday, are on the practice squad.
